Why Spectra

Here at Spectra, I strive to educate people on the science of Cannabis and how cannabinoids and terpenes interact with the Endocannabinoid System.

That being said, I try to do this in a way that shows not only is the science of the product important, but also where it comes from and how it’s produced.

All Spectra products are craft manufactured, in small batches. The Hemp my products originate from is grown using organic techniques and practices. All of the Spectra carriers used are certified Organic.

All of the products are made by hand, with love and respect for this wonderful plant.

The Science

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a Cannabinoid. Cannabinoids interact with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).  All humans and animals have an ECS. The purpose of the ECS is to regulate a number of body processes and functions such as sleep, mood, chronic pain and inflammation, among others. Cannabinoids are found most prevalently in Cannabis, but also found in smaller amounts in things like broccoli, Black Pepper, Clove, and Ginseng. Israel has been studying Cannabis for over 25 years now, and the U.S. is really just now beginning to recognize the benefits of it.

The Craft

I am an Educated Artisan. (Not a DOCTOR!)

When it comes to farming, our hands get dirty. The Hemp is all planted by hand. Each plant is inspected prior to harvesting, to ensure peak CBD production. Often, the top of the plant is ready before the bottom, so there is typically a staged harvest. This means the fields are walked many times. We do not go in with big machines to cut the plants down all at one time! The flowers stripped from the stalk by hand.

I develop new products often. I experiment with botanically derived terpenes, as well as other cannabinoids, to come up with the best product I can for specific ideas.

All of the recipes I use are tested and developed in my kitchen. They are tried out on myself, my family, and my friends (in that order). Then, on to the Spectra Laboratory for manufacturing, and MCR Labs for state testing, before finally being released to you, the consumer.

The Plus

+ All of the Hemp extract that Spectra uses is Full Spectrum. Meaning all of the Cannabinoids that are found in the hemp plants are present in our products. This is called the entourage effect.  It is believed that cannabinoids work best when they function together with other cannabinoids, including small amounts of THC. (Hemp is defined as Cannabis that has less than .03% of THC.) All Spectra products are made from Hemp Extract, and lab tested to show they conform to this requirement.

++ I am also developing new products all the time. Certain cannabinoids are known for helping with certain things, as well as different terpenes and different herbs. By adding the +, it allows me the freedom to release products that incorporate many all natural ingredients.

State Testing

Know the difference! There is a lot of information out there, and wading through it all is difficult, even for people in the know. Always ask to see a products Certificate of Analysis. You are looking for the Cannabinoid Profile, to see that the amount of CBD that is on the label is what is in the bottle. You are ALSO looking to see that the batch passes the State required Third Party Safety Profiles that test for Residual Solvents, Pesticides, Heavy Metals and Microbiological Contaminant.

Batch testing and Product testing.

When CBD is processed, it is made into concentrated Hemp extract, called distillate. A sample of this is sent to a State licensed testing facility. A sample of this is sent to a State Accredited Laboratory. It will test for the Cannabinoid profile (CBD/THC/CBG/CBN+), as well as Heavy Metals, Residual Solvents, Pesticides and any Microbiological Contaminant. This is what is called the Batch test. All products made with this Batch will refer back to this same Batch test. All products made with this Batch will get tested individually for their Cannabiniod profile, so you are able to see that the MG that are on the label are actually in the product.

All Spectra Products are tested at MCR Labs in Framingham, MA.
